Swiss America Securities Ltd. first Bahamian company to receive TRUSTe Privacy Seal
Nassau, Bahamas October 06, 2011: By the request of President & CEO Guy Gentile of Swiss America Securities Ltd., the TRUSTe’s Legal and Compliance Team gathered to discuss and decided to include the Bahamas in its TRUSTe Privacy Seal Program. This is a major step forward for the Bahamas, especially in terms of its ecommerce capabilities and international relations through online channels of communications.
TRUSTe, founded in 1997, is the leading online privacy solutions provider. The company offers a broad suite of privacy services to help businesses build trust and increase engagement across all of their online channels, including websites, mobile applications, advertising, cloud services, business analytics and email marketing. Before Mr. Gentile approached TRUSTe, the Bahamas was not considered for certification due to the privacy framework of the country. However, after Mr. Gentile described the qualifications that the Bahamas possessed in terms of its privacy framework being similar to that of the UK, they were willing to reconsider.
This is a major accomplishment for Swiss America Securities Ltd., but also a newfound advantage for all Bahamian businesses in e-commerce and the way they compete in global markets through online channels of communication. Over 4,000 web properties including those from top companies like Apple, AT&T, Disney, eBay, Facebook, HP, Microsoft, Nationwide and Yelp rely on TRUSTe to ensure compliance with evolving and complex privacy requirements, according to TRUSTe. Now Bahamian businesses can join the list.
